- Abstract
The study examines Indonesian media coverage of Russia during the Special Military Operation (SMO) and the government’s retaliatory measures against media outlets that publish fake news. The research employed questionnaires distributed to two distinct groups of respondents in two waves: 329 respondents from the first group and 339 respondents from the second. The results and discussion section focuses on location analyses conducted in Indonesia using data collection techniques involving observations of various media outlets. These analyses revealed at least several reports suspected of being fake news. Notably, approximately 70% of the respondents expressed a positive perception of the news coverage of modern Russia in Indonesian media. However, fake news or hoaxes were primarily sourced from websites such as https://kabar24.bisnis.com/, www.kompas.com/, and other sources. The study’s findings suggest that the undertaken measures had a positive impact on reducing the number of fake news reports related to the current Russian image during the SMO.
