Abstract

This study introduces the tense/aspect systems in English and Chinese, and collected some data from 50 intermediate Chinese English Learners. The data shows that the explanation of Chinese aspect marker zhe significantly enhances the ratio of the right English progressive forms, in other words, the rate of those varied wrong choices is decreased. Therefore the conclusion is that the Chinese aspect marker zhe has a significant effect on the acquisition of English progressive acquisition.
