Abstract

This study compares the U.S. import trade patterns in primary agricultural products and agricultural manufactures from 1978 to 2017. We find that the U.S. imports of primary agro-products are subject to import restriction, while that of the agro-manufactures are characterized by import facilitation. In the past 40 years, the U.S. trades in agro-products have been much far away from free trade.
