Abstract

Adsorption of Co(II) on synthesized chitosan-g-poly (acrylic acid) hydrogel was investigated, using batch adsorption technique under different experimental conditions of equilibrium pH, concentration of common competing ions, contact time and temperature. The Langmuir adsorption model fitted the experimental data reasonably well better than Freundlich model. The maximum monolayer adsorption capacity of Co(II) was 73.0 mg/g at 298 K. Kinetics experiments indicated that the adsorption of Co(II) on synthesized chitosan-g-poly (acrylic acid) hydrogel can be simulated by pseudo-first-order model.
