- Abstract
This study mainly focused on the dehydration of xylose to furfural with green catalysis. The reaction was under atmospheric pressure, with the as the catalyst plus an inorganic salt (NaCl) as promoter. DMSO was used as a renewable extraction solvent in a biphasic system. The optimal catalytic reaction conditions were determined by single factor design. The results showed that the optimal catalytic reaction conditions were the following conditions: 30 mL of DMSO and 2g xylose, 1 g NaCl, 2.5g and heating for 4 h. It resulted in the maximum yield of 47.7 %. The experimental results showed that the preparation of furfural from xylose solution system with the solid acid catalyst, has the huge development potential. The addition of an inorganic salt (NaCl) to the aqueous phase was shown to improve the yield of furfural.
