- Abstract
This article studies regional differences of peer-to-peer lending in China. We construct a novel index, called peer-to-peer lending development index, to measure the development level of peer-to-peer lending in different provinces. Using quarterly panel data from January 2014 to March 2016 in 28 Chinese provinces, we describe regional differences of peer-to-peer lending development level and identify the determinants of peer-to-peer lending development across regions. Based on our empirical findings, we provide policy recommendations for the development of peer-to-peer lending in China.
