This study is aimed to investigate how the Urban Border Effect can influence the spatial environment, the ecological system, and the cultural value of a city. This paper presents a case study conducted in the village of Unionville, Ontario, Canada, which is located in the border between the city of Toronto and the municipal region of York. A methodology was adapted for scientific specification and identification of urban border. The ultimate goal of this study is to develop thorough understanding of the Canadian experience that we believe is highly inspirational to China, especially when it is essential to activate the Urban Border Effect to slow down the disappearing of farmlands and forests under the pressure of the current ambitious urbanization.
