Abstract

The metal halide lamp is one of the best energy-saving and environment-protective illumination plans to substitute traditional light sources with high energy consumption. Electronic ballast is essentially the power supply for metal halide lamp, so it has great significance to develop high-performance electronic ballast fit for metal halide lamp. In this paper, on the basis of brief analysis on discharge characteristics of metal halide lamp, the operation principle and control strategy of the electronic ballast for 70W metal halide lamp are given out in detail. Waveforms gained from measurements of key points in the circuit show the metal halide lamp can be ignited gradually and work stably.
