- Abstract
The phenomenon of education inequity exists in education systems around the world. The inequity level might be affected by the countries’ centralization level and social structure. This article will discuss the inequity related to socioeconomic status in the United States, the United Kingdom and Japan and to what extent the socioeconomic backgrounds influences education equity in the three countries. Each country’s policies in response to this issue will also be analyzed and the effectiveness of these policies will be evaluated. The impacts of nation’s social structure and political system on education inequity issue and the effectiveness of various educational policies will also be discussed.
