- Abstract
This article discusses the political stance of the Moluccas Protestant Church (GPM), when it was dealing with the Republic of South Moluccas (RMS). GPM rejected the RMS’ request to support its struggle to make Moluccas as an independent and sovereign state of the Federal Republic of Indonesia (RIS). The GPM’s resistance to RMS arose as a historical consequence of the Autonome Moluksche Kerk’s (AMK) opposition to the governmentality that Indische Kerk applied to the Christian community in the Moluccas Church. In order to explain the AMK’s resistance to the Indische Kerk’s governmentality which gave consequence to the GPM’s resistance to RMS, as the aim of this study, this study uses the concept of governmentality and resistance proposed by Michel Foucault. Based on the analysis conducted on the archival sources and interview data found, this study concludes that the resistances that AMK had done to Indische Kerk and GPM to RMS are manifestations of Moluccas Church attitude of anti-governmentality applied in the church.
