Abstract

The train is composed by carbody, frame, bogie, interior and exterior. Material selection for the car body of the car from metal. Corrosion is a weakness in metal materials that occurs due to the surrounding environment. One way to reduce the corrosion rate of metals is by coating. This study aims to determine the effect of coating treatment on the corrosion rate with the salt spray test.

The salt spray method to determine the corrosion rate on metal materials uses the ASTM B117 standard. Weight loss is one method to determine the corrosion rate by calculating the difference in weight.

From the test results, it was found that the corrosion rate on the carriage K3 wall plate with galvanized material with sandpaper coating has a corrosion rate of 0.000274 mmpy. While the results of the uncoated sandpaper a corrosion rate of 0.00192 mmpy.
