- Abstract
This study aims to determine the thermal characteristics of fly ash. The fly ash used in this study comes from the Paiton PLTU. The test was carried out using the TGA method. The TGA test was carried out at a temperature of 0°–1000 °C with a heating rate of 20 °C/min and nitrogen (N2) as a carrier gas. The TGA test provides information that there is a decrease in mass at temperatures of 600 °C–680 °C and 700 °C–950 °C. This indicates a decomposition process of the compounds contained in the fly ash. From the test results, it can be seen that the thermal stability of fly ash occurs at a temperature of 600 °C. This high heat resistance allows fly ash to be developed into a composite material for railroad brake blocks.
