- Abstract
Inclusion enviroment makes individuals learn to accept the situation in life. Adolescents with physical disabilities need a positive self-concept in achieving success in the inclusion environment. This study tried to find out the changing of self-concept in adolescents with physical disabilities via client-centered counseling. It involved five adolescents with physical disabilities in a public school in Jakarta, Indonesia. The methodology used the quantitative research design with the evaluation of pre-test post-test one group design, and a sign test for the data analysis with the instrument that measured in Chida scaling system. The study results obtained that positive self-concept in adolescents with physically disabilities could be improved through client-centered counseling. The implication could be formulated that adolescents with physically disabilities must be guided to develop their positive self-concept. Positive self-concept could be developed by working as a soft skill that supports future success. Besides, working is a key in the struggle for adolescents with physically disabilities, since the self-concept is attached on it. When the self-concept is negative, it will bring negative behavior. Oppositely, when the self-concept is positive, it will bring positive behavior.
