- Abstract
Based on the fractal theory, this paper quantitatively studies the influence of machining parameters on fractal characterization of typical metallic surface topography. Seven kinds of materials were selected including Q235, 45#, 0Cr18Ni9, HT200, T2, HPb59-1 and YL12. The surface topography was obtained under different machining parameters and the corresponding fractal dimension D and characteristic roughness Ra* were calculated using root mean square method. The conventional parameter roughness Ra was used for comparison to evaluate the influence of turning speed and feed rate and tries to reveal the feasibility of fractal parameters to characterize the machinability of materials and eventually establish the relationship between fractal parameters and material properties.
