- Abstract
This research describes the relationship between folktales in Banyuwangi with social views of the life of society. Secondly, the hegemony controls through folktales to create mindset related to moral values that grow in the society. The qualitative research used documentation technique with the theory of literature sociology in its analysis procedure. The data was taken from the book titled Cerita Rakyat dari Banyuwangi (Folktales of Banyuwangi) written by Hutomo and Yonohudiyono. The result of the research explains that folktales tell about the origin of villages’ names in Banyuwangi, the history of the Blambangan Kingdom and the idealism of the culture Osing society in Banyuwangi. All of the stories can be teachings on how the ideal social life based on people of Osing in Banyuwangi and can be hegemony control for the cultural preservation of the tribe.
