- Abstract
Though the film Portrait of a Lady on Fire can be discussed through a variety of dimensions, this paper focuses on the gaze between the protagonists as well as the tragic temperament in this film. The first part of the paper analyzes the female gaze and its utilization throughout the film. The second part turns to the discussion of “the poet’s choice.” Finally, the paper expands on the tragedy itself and illustrates the reason why people need tragedy and how it is beautiful.
