- Abstract
What is ‘constitutionalism’ and is a comparative study useful? ‘Constitutionalism’ may be described as a principle or ideal in constitutional and administrative law, which prescribes limitations on state power. Why are limitations on state power important? The short answer to that question is as stated by Lord Acton that ‘power tends to corrupt and absolute power corrupts absolutely’. However, it is not just corruption or dishonesty of the financial kind that is to be eschewed. Any abuse of power that is ultra vires its purpose, should be checked and controlled.
