Abstract

The evaluation of government programs in order to reduce poverty and reach equal distribution of income is considered to be running quite slowly. This is indicated by the percentage of poor people that only decreased less than 1% a year since 2010; even the percentage of poor people increased in September 2015. Therefore, funding or material assitance is needed from other sources that can be used as a driver of poverty alleviation such as zakat, infaq and waqf, which are adopted from the Islamic Economics system. This study examines the implementation of Islamic Economics in order to improve prosperity in Indonesia, especially the poor. The implementation of zakat is mandatory for certain groups and the distribution should be based on certain characteristics including those who need help. Infaq and waqf are more general and can be applied to wider population. By optimizing the acceptance of zakat, infaq, and waqf, revenues will be distributed from high income populations to low-income populations so it can improve the prosperity
