- Abstract
The literature on the effects of FDI in de-veloping countries provides a range of prospective benefits to the recipient coun-try, however many benefit of FDI are fre-quently challenged. The orientation to the market economy adopted by the Algerian government in the early nineties, and its desire to investment development allow it to attempt to attract FDI by giv-ing many incentives. This paper examines qualitatively the extent to which Algeria benefits from the FDI attracted since the progressive economic reform and the opening process. The major conclusions stand out from this paper are as follow: (a) Algeria has not yet reached to attract the desired level of foreign investments. (b) Most of the foreign projects focus on the hydro-carbon sector. (c) The lack of the absorp-tive capacity of the Algerian economy. All these factors together hamper the po-tential spillover benefits from FDI.
