- Abstract
“Phonetic Attraction” and “Homonymic Collision” are important “internal factors” that interfere with the linearity of lexical change. These “non-linear change” may have a much greater impact on language changes than “linear change.” This paper will take the two words “sister”(Muē) and “congee”(muê) in Hokkien in Taiwan as examples to observe how the language produces “phonetic attraction” and proceeds “ homonymic avoidance “ in the process of language contact.
