- Abstract
The Chinese sentence pattern “even if p, q” originated from the “although p, q” format used in the Spring and Autumn Period. Then over a long-term development and change, there have successively been “if p, q”, “even though p, q”, “even if p, q” and other sentence patterns. It was initially formed in the late Ming Dynasty, fully developed in the Qing Dynasty and widely used in the period of the Republic of China.
