- Abstract
Islamic studies have its own dynamics in the Javanese tradition. Islam sharing its space with cultural values that have rooted in Javanese traditions. This intersection raises an interesting variant of Islam, but the debate about whether Islamic Javanism is also Islam continues to color the development of Islam in Java. This study will examine various interpretations to present the main ideas about Kejawen Islam. It will also explore how the syncretism of Islam in Java produces a culture of tolerance through an understanding of ethical relativism in the context of Javanese culture, which is now increasingly eroded from people's memories.
