Abstract

This paper briefly introduces the connotation of China's non-governmental organization and major emergency, and explains the realistic background and significance of non-governmental organizations participating in major emergencies. Next, taking Wenchuan earthquake as a case, this paper analyzes the advantages of non-governmental organizations' participation in emergency management of major emergencies — grassroots nature: being close the public; impartiality: safeguarding social fairness; professionalism: providing professional services; flexibility: making faster response to crisis. Finally, the paper illustrates the role that non-governmental organizations should play in the emergency management of major emergencies.
