- Abstract
The article discusses the reception of the peculiarities of the figurative system and the musical language of the Baroque epoch in the work of Western European composers of the first half of the XIX century. A common approach for two epochs to the antithetical reflection of the phenomena of the world in their contradiction and dialectical unity is noted. The special character of the religious views of the romantics is revealed. The romantics mastered the idioms of the topos of sorrow and pathos, applying them both in secular and in liturgical genres. A striking example of an appeal to baroque sources is the Requiem op. 148 Schumann, in which the composer refuses to manifest the author's style, choosing the objective tone of the narrative.
