- Abstract
This article aims to investigate the role of decentralization in promoting the sustainability of renewable energy, specifically solar power, at the local level in Indonesia. The study uses a case study approach by examining four traditional hamlets in Ngada Regency, East Nusa Tenggara, where solar power plants have been installed to provide electricity to remote communities. Data was collected through literature review, observation, and in-depth interviews with 30 respondents who were residents, village officials, and local government staff. The study concludes that broader decentralization of energy policies is necessary to ensure the sustainability of renewable energy production and consumption, which includes the transfer of authority, capacity and technical knowledge, and financial resources from the central government to the local government. The findings have implications for improving energy access for isolated communities, promoting energy security, and preventing future energy crises in Indonesia.
