- Abstract
American western films mainly include two important expression modes: western film and gangster film. The development and evolution of the two modes manifest the changes in mainstream ideology of American society and social value under historical background to some extent. This paper systematically studies and analyzes obvious transformation of western films from 1950s to 1990s and fundamentally reveals the evolution route of gradually enhancement of individualistic value and weakening of national speaking right in “American dream”.
