- Abstract
The effects of two activators for activating H2O2 bleaching at low temperature were studied in this paper. The results show that: (1) both 1,2-bis-(diacetamido)-ethane (TAED) and sodium 4-(2-decanoyloxyethoxycarbonyloxy) benzenenesulfonate (OBA) can catalyze the H2O2 bleaching at low temperature, e.g. 70 oC. The whiteness of cotton bleached with the two activators was comparable to those bleached without catalysts at high temperature (e.g. 90 oC), while the tensile strength increased by 10%, (2) the data of whiteness and tensile strength of cotton fabric bleached with TAED were higher than those bleached with OBA, (3) the optimum conditions of cotton fabric treated by TAED were: TAED: H2O2 = 1:6 (mass ratio), 70 oC, 30min.
