- Abstract
2019 marks the 20th anniversary of the return of Macao. Since the reunification, Macao's economic prosperity, social stability, the application of good governance concepts in public administration, and the improvement of people’s livelihood are good evidence of the successful practice of "one country, two systems" policy. It’s worth mentioning that after the founding of People’s Republic of China, different policies were adopted in Macao according to China’s domestic conditions and the reality of the small territory. Through gradual development and adjustment, the concept of "one country, two systems" was finally put forward as China’s basic national policy. It was written into the Constitution and finally successfully applied to the settlement of the Hong Kong and Macao issues. This article first summarizes the attempts made by various governments before the founding of PRC to recover Macao, then sorts out different policies towards Macao in different periods, and finally demonstrates that the return of Macao to China is bound to happen.
