- Abstract
To demonstrate the applicability of damage identification methods, wavelet analysis is used in damage detection of space trusses. For a single identification method may not be sensitive to structural damages in multiple locations. A damage identification approach based on the modal strain energy and wavelet transformation was proposed in this paper. A structural damage index has been built on the coefficients of the wavelet transformation based of the modal strain energy variations. Through the numerical simulation of a space truss, it has been demonstrated that the structural damage index, based on the wavelet transformation coefficients of the modal strain energy is effective. The proposed method can effectively determine different damage locations in a structure. The results have laid solid foundation for the practical engineering applications for the proposed method.
