Abstract

Using the method of sol-gel and high-temperature nitridation, we prepared iron nitride compounds. Recently, iron nitrides have been achieving more attention due to their excellent magnetic properties. Using X-ray diffraction technique, the crystal structure has been investigated. It is found that, when the nitridation temperature is lower, the achieved samples are composed of multi-phases, which contained Fe-O and Fe-N compounds. Increasing the nitridation temperature to 850°C, single phase -Fe3N has been observed.
