- Abstract
This work presents an approach of finding the optimal location and size of battery energy storage system (BESS) in a distribution network with distributed generation (DG) in order to reduce distribution system losses and control of voltage rise due to DG fluctuation. The optimal site and size of the BESS are obtained by minimising the cost of power losses and battery investment expenditure. IEEE 33-bus standard distribution system is used for simulation and results are evaluated. The optimization problem is solved using Genetic Algorithm (GA). After allocation and scheduling of BESS in the distribution network the daily energy losses are obtained which are found to be low as compared to the case of distribution network without BESS.
