- Abstract
This research aims to determine and compare the impact of the application of problem-based learning and direct instruction on students’ critical thinking skills in solving mathematical problems. This research is quantitative research with a quasi-experimental research type. This study is the Nonequivalent Control Group Design. The population in this research was the elementary school students at grade V SDN 113 Inpres Laikang and the sample of the research consisted of two classes that were selected based on purposive sampling techniques. Test and questionnaire were used to collect the data and they were analyzed by using normality test, homogeneity test, and t-test. The results showed that the application of problem-based learning has a better positive effect than the application of direct instruction on students’ critical thinking ability in solving mathematical problems.
