The field of clinical hematology is rapidly and dramatically changing, and old diagnostic and therapeutic certainties can no longer be taken for granted. It is with this background that the International Academy for Clinical Hematology (IACH) was founded by an international group of physicians, scientists, and healthcare professionals, whose focus is to promote good clinical practice in the field of hematology.
There is an urgent global demand for continuing education of hematologists comprising clinical skills for patient management, standardization of real-life treatment procedures, as well performance of routine and comprehensive care in the various fields of hematology. Currently, hematology is likely the most dynamic medical specialty with respect to new pathophysiology findings and their implementation in novel therapies. The development of new drugs (targeted therapies, immunotherapy, cellular therapy, etc.) is accompanied by a growing demand for sharing of academic experience, in order to improve the quality of patient treatment and care through the development of professional competency and excellence. In order to attain these objectives, cooperation is needed between health professionals worldwide under a common purpose to promote healthcare capacities by sharing scientific and clinical knowledge, methods, and skills. The IACH aims to create a comprehensive intellectual and operational environment for acquisition of knowledge, skills, clinical judgement, and attitudes essential for the best practice of clinical hematology.
Clinical Hematology International, the official journal of the IACH, aims to become a leading journal in its field. As an academic journal, we would like to provide an open platform for dissemination of knowledge, and to contribute toward international collaboration and entente by bringing all stakeholders involved in clinical hematology under a unique umbrella.
Through modern communication and educational tools (open access journal, webinars, educational events, e-learning, etc.), the IACH aims at creating a common space and environment, which can unite all efforts to beat malignant and nonmalignant hematologic diseases. This is, naturally, the ultimate goal we champion. As global players in the broader field of hematology, we, at the IACH, will not cease to do our share of the united fight against hematologic diseases. At our launch, we already owe a big thank you to all authors, reviewers, and editors, for their contribution to Clinical Hematology International. Your support and loyalty help us carry forward our ideal for a world free of hematologic diseases.
We hope you enjoy reading this first issue of Clinical Hematology International.
