Abstract

This paper analyzes the phenomenon of “Chinglish” in Chinese students’ learning English as their second language. By using the theory of negative transfer, the paper finds Chinese students’ mother tongue hinders them from writing or speaking English as fluently as native speakers. Therefore, EFL teachers should reduce Chinese language’s negative transfer on students’ English learning from phonetics, vocabulary, and syntax.
