Abstract

Building a modern industrial system is an important focus point for promoting high-quality development. The logistics industry is an important part of the modern industrial system, and the improvement of logistics efficiency is the key to the high-quality development of the modern industrial system. The digital economy has become a new driving force for economic growth in countries around the world. This paper combines China’s provincial panel data from 2014–2019, innovatively constructs an evaluation index system to measure the development level of the digital economy, and applies the super DEA-SBM method to measure logistics efficiency to empirically test the effect of digital economy-driven logistics efficiency improvement. The study shows that the digital economy promotes the improvement of logistics efficiency. The development of urbanization and the growth of the general economic environment are also important factors to enhance logistics efficiency. China should promote logistics efficiency improvement in the future through four major policy mechanisms: integrated promotion, collaborative development, cooperation and sharing, and local adaptation, and give full play to the new advantages of the digital economy.
